Celebrating Women in Business
On Friday 8th March, we attended a Women in Business event at Carlisle Lake District Airport.
The event was organised by Natwest to celebrate International Women’s Day and invited working women from across the area to come together and celebrate success and achievement. Our marketing manager, Karen Graham, attended and represented us by showcasing a stand showing a huge array of local produce from suppliers that we work closely alongside. From Claire’s Handmade jams and chutneys, ales from Carlisle Brewing and Brack n Brew to gin from the Lakes Distillery, our stand attracted a lot of attention.
There were many inspirational female speakers invited on the day. Kate Willard, Head of Corporate Operations at Stobart Group was full of life and inspirational thoughts for those present. She presented, with humour, her ‘things learnt in life’.
1.Your family are your supporters and make you the confident person you are.
2.You only get far by working hard.
3.Trust your gut instinct.
4.Graft always continues to be an important part of success so don’t give up!
Professor Patricia Livesey, Chief Executive of Eden Valley Hospice & Jigsaw Children’s Hospice, talked about inspiration and the traits inspirational people possess; passion, courage and determination. Inspirational people express positivity, are grateful to their team, are open and honest, are trusted and good communicators.
There was also a meaningful purpose to the event; raising vital funds for the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice. We donated a food hamper, packed full of wonderful produce and the lucky winner was Craig Parkin from the Whitehaven branch of Natwest, collected on his behalf by one of his colleagues.
Overall, the event raised over £2,000 for the Carlisle-based children’s charity.
Attendees also got a VIP tour around the brand new airport. Flights are due to take off in July 2019.
