We’re committed to paying a fair wage for a day’s work

We are proud to announce that we have gained accreditation as a Living Wage Employer. Our commitment to paying a fair wage for a day’s work sees our minimum hourly rate stand at £10. This is above the National Minimum Wage and Real Living Wage rate and significantly higher than the government minimum for over 23s which currently stands at £9.50 per hour.

We are based in the north west, a region with nearly a fifth of all jobs (18.4%) paying less than the Real Living Wage – equating to around 534,000 jobs. Despite this, we have committed to pay the Real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

The Real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 300,000 people and put over £1.6 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Our HR Manager, Graham Smith says:

“This is not only the right thing to do, it also recognises the value of all our people and their contribution and commitment to the business.”

A company pay review was undertaken in February which brought with it a cost of living increase above the Real Living Wage to our people. It’s currently well documented that the cost of living and inflation are rising, therefore we took the decision to help our people overcome some of the financial challenges we are all facing.

Managing Director, Graham Jenkins, comments:

“We’re a family-owned business and our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to become a Living Wage Employer and join other businesses such as Newcastle Football Club, Nestlé, Story Contracting and The Cumberland Building Society.”

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation says: “We’re delighted that Pioneer Foodservice has joined the movement of almost 9,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further that the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on”.
