On Tuesday 21st March, we welcomed the Young Farmers from Walton, near Carlisle to our depot.
They were taking part in carcass judging tuition. The challenge for the visitors was to judge three locally sourced lambs and two whole pigs. David Jenkins, our sales director, helped and guided them to the key features and attributes they should be looking for, i.e. fat cover, thickness of back, shape of forequarter.
A Field Day competition takes place on 13th May where 25 Young Farmers clubs from across Cumbria come together to compete in a range of activities. Carcass judging is just one of the competitions that Walton Young Farmers will take part in, so with expert tuition from David, we’re sure they’ll do well!
