Breast Cancer Awareness – Wear it Pink day

Thursday 6th October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month so we thought we’d take part in not only raising the profile of the cause, but raise some funds for the Breast Cancer Now charity.

We held our ‘Wear it Pink’ fundraising day on Thursday 6th October at both our head office and Rosehill foodstore.

Drum roll, please …

We raised a whopping £837.45.

We became pink for the day! Pictured are some of our colleagues from around the store wearing their Breast Cancer Awareness charity t-shirts. They look smart and glamorous!

Our foodstore customers were generous in their donations and we would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who donated on the day. Customers could buy pink iced muffins and all proceeds were donated to the charity.

The bike challenge

We placed a static bike (decorated in pink balloons, of course) in our foodstore and we all took part in a cycling challenge. The resistance was turned up, we all donned the pink wig and high viz jacket and cycled flat-out for two minutes.

Whoever cycled the furthest distance, won the challenge. It was a tough one, but in the end there were three winners; Chris Nugent (Meat Buying Manager), Hayden Cutting (Fish Counter) and Jonnie Forbes (The Auctioneer) … well done, guys!

Competition winners

All colleagues took part in a ‘Guess the length of the butcher’s sausage’ competition. Michael Brown, warehouse supervisor, and his partner will be eating Cumberland sausage for a week now!

We also held a raffle with some fantastic prizes not only from our foodstore and The Auctioneer, but from Sweet Moments and Unilever.

Here are some of the lucky winners …

We’re currently running some special ‘Wear it pink’ promotions for our foodservice customers. They will run for the whole month of October and when finished we’ll be announcing the grand total of our fundraising efforts. Keep a look out!
